Improv—short for improvisation—is a form of live theater in which all aspects of the performance are made up on the spot. Learning improv skills helps build confidence to be on stage and to become a more effective public speaker. It helps you recover from mistakes and learn to laugh at yourself. This class is the perfect opportunity for students with little or no vocal training to learn the basics of singing and to have fun with others in the process. Students will learn such foundations as breath control, vocal resonance and diction, and each student will have their own song to work on and sing for the group. Together we learn from our mistakes, our successes and our practice. Instructor: Johnlehrackmusic.com

PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS
THE FIRST LESSON
It's important that I know as much about your voice and goals as I can learn, and so we'll spend time in your first lesson talking about your singing background and what you want to accomplish. After this, I need to hear your voice. We'll do this by working through some scale and vocal exercises. You are more than welcome to bring a song to sing, but don't feel pressured to do that. I'll be able to learn a lot about your voice through the exercises. However, if you are new to lessons this process will also be new to you and you may want to share something you like to sing so you feel more comfortable during this first time.
After we've done the diagnosing, we'll get to work toward your goals. We'll spend most of the rest of the lesson working solely on technique, which involves your breathing, your body and the basic foundations of singing. If we have time at the end, we'll talk about songs for you to start learning and I'll help you with the resources you need to get the music for them.
AFTER THE FIRST LESSON
After the first lesson, lessons will run in a typical pattern, but that may vary depending on many factors, such as how much you were able to practice, if you have short-term goals we need to address right away, vocal health issues or something else.
In most lessons, we will spend the first part working solely on technique that is designed to not only strengthen your voice but to improve your control over it. We'll work on range, volume, style, control, finesse, vowels, diction and more. The remainder of the time we will use to work on repertoire that we choose together.
I always want you to be working on songs that are not only interesting to you, but also provide challenges that will help you grow as a singer.
You're encouraged to use your smart phone to record your lessons for reference.
